Iced Chai vs. Mom
Rashmi Bhat · June 2026

My mom was totally against us having Iced Chai on the menu. In India, chai is always served piping hot, and if the chai is cold, you toss it. It is just not culturally a thing to drink iced chai. But knowing how popular it is in America, I told my mom we had to try it.
So 3 days before we opened the restaurant, she agreed, but she said, 'I want to decide how we do it.' No concentrate, no mixes, none of that.
We make it authentically the Indian way, in house. We boil the tea leaves, water, milk, and homemade chai masala using my mom's secret recipe. Don't tell her I told you. Then we cool the whole thing down, so the chai is not a concentrate, it is actual Indian chai.
"It is just not culturally a thing to drink iced chai."
Come to 7 Monks Cafe and try the iced chai made the way my mom was willing to stand behind.
